Slug Found in Cauliflower

Having had a great day making French Macaroons well, that maybe a little bit of an exageration. The above happen to be my second attempt the least said about the first attempt the better. Afterwards it being around 16.00 hours my thoughts turned to dinner as unfortunately, it was my turn to conjure something up tonight. As I was on holiday I thought I would delight my men folk with their favourite (that I am able to cook) Shepherd's Pie. The mince looked a bit meagre so I thought I could fill it out a little with some cauliflower mashed up and hidden in with the meat. To my horror there was a fat and shall I say, rather smug looking slug curled up in the cauliflower. Well I never I had only removed his hideous brother from the cauliflower the day before. This called for action said slug was dispatched to the garden although, I did think about salting the greedy little thing and the cauliflower no longer seemed like a viable idea that went in the bin. I did not quite fancy it knowing that not one but two enormous slugs had been shacked up there enjoying the finer things in life however, it must have been quite cold as I had the cauli in the fridge.

Making Meringues

I have been really enjoying myself making tiny little meringues for the dollshouse. However life in full scale has not been as wonderful. I have turned 41 and at my Birthday BBQ my sister-in-law first remarked that my hands were looking old and then, to dig the hole even deeper she added that I had quite a few grey hairs. Well, I casually asked her whether she was enjoying herself and that if she was to keep her opinions to herself or otherwise she may be leaving. Then we both started laughing, talk about "kick a dog when its down".

Beautiful Crusty Bread and Not a Bite to Eat

What a week so far, I have been visiting my father in Lancashire and eaten so much I have gained 2 pounds.
However, to top that the good Lord hath smite me, just now a couple of religious people knocked to invite me to their Easter day service in the local church, I replied I do not celebrate Easter. Not being deterred they asked what I celebrate, to which I replied the rhythms of the earth I am pagan.
Well no sooner had they gone that I sat down to enjoy a festive Hot Cross Bun and can you believe it, I broke my tooth on the b****y thing. The moral of this tale I suppose is that I should forget my pagan ways and hot foot it to church tomorrow before the filling falls out as well. So as you can imagine I am not the happiest bunny in the warren. But before the filling falls out and all hell breaks loose I will explain what I have been doing. I put together a baker's tray of delicious bloomers, cobbs, french sticks and a plaited loaf.

At this moment I am working on various pickles including a Branstan type chutney and mango chutney. I just stopped for lunch. Now I have finished poking and prodding my poor tooth I will resume my crafting.

Time is slipping Through my Fingers

Its the end of March already and I have hardly had time to post. I have been busy making exquisite Charlotte cakes, one of my personal favorites. This weekend I will concentrate on sliced Black Forest Gateaux. Oh dear my mouth is watering just imagining them, thank god they are 0 calories.

The cat is back in my room perched on the arm of my sofa. I think she realizes that if she ever invades my miniature space again times will be very very bad for her.......... I had to forgive her eventually, as she is my only ally in a house of two males. It is her that greets me when I wake, accompanies me to the bathroom, sits patiently while I dress and then sorrowfully says goodbye as I leave for work. Only to greet me again cheerfully when I return. She sits with me when I am ill and seems to continuly feel my moods so, really I could not be cross for long.

Giant Cat on the Rampage

My usually docile furry friend caused havoc today as she suddenly launched herself onto my shelf of miniatures. One minute she was lazing in the sun on the arm of my sofa then, to my utter horror I heard a thud and a crash at this point I jumped up from sculpting only to see the huge ephalump perched in the middle of my treasures. I froze what to do? I wanted to scream the house down but, that would only frighten her causing more damage. So I walked slowly, very slowly towards her not letting her know I was at all cross (so she would not move) then, I snatched her off the shelf and eased her through the door all the while shouting and trying not to step on anything that had fallen. Lets just say that today we are not the best of friends and she will not be allowed in my work room for a while.

On the bright side minimum damage for done however, I am still reeling from the imaginery damage I saw in my mind's eye.

Dollhouse Miniature 1/12th Scale Breakfast Tray for the Nursery

This little tray I put together puts me in mind of my own childhood feeding my younger cousins boiled eggs, my Granny had cooked, and dare I say stealing a buttered soldier for myself. It would seem one never loses the fancy for a boiled egg and soldiers I often prepare my 17 year old a couple of boiled eggs for breakfast soldiers and all. Unfortunately butter is off the menu due to allergies however we sneak a little on our soldiers at Christmas.
